Why Vincent Leisure

A family-run caravan buyer that pays a fair price and turns up when it says it will

Vincent Leisure has been buying touring caravans and motorhomes from owners across the UK since 2001. We’re not a call centre and we’re not a referral network — when you ring 01282 932161, you get James, the owner. He values every caravan personally, drives the collection lorry, and pays you on the day.

Most of the people who sell to us have already tried something else. They’ve had the caravan listed on Auto Trader for two months. They’ve had a buyer pull out after the third damp reading. They’ve had a dealer offer half what it’s worth as a part-exchange. We exist for the bit in the middle — a fair price, no haggling on collection day, and the whole thing done inside a week.

Our Track Record

Hundreds of caravans purchased from private sellers across mainland UK

We buy caravans from owners every month — most weeks, more than one. Over twenty years of doing that has given us a clear sense of what UK touring caravans are actually worth, brand by brand and model by model, and a network of trade buyers we sell on to. Both of those things matter to you. They mean we can offer a fair figure quickly, and we don’t need to lowball to protect our margin.

Because we own the trucks and do the collections ourselves, there are no third-party transport costs and no waiting around for a haulier to be free. Most collections happen within a few days of you accepting our offer. If you’re in a genuine hurry, tell us when you submit your details — we’ve turned things around in 48 hours when it has mattered.

Where to sell a caravan

Your three realistic options when selling a caravan

There’s no single “best place to sell a caravan” — it depends on how quickly you want it gone, how much hassle you’re willing to handle, and how much money you’re chasing.

Sell privately

Auto Trader, Facebook, Caravan Trader

The traditional route — list it yourself, field enquiries, handle viewings.

  • Highest possible sale price
  • You set the asking figure
  • Often takes 4–12 weeks to sell
  • Listing fees and constant phone calls
  • Sales fall through over damp or finance
  • You handle paperwork yourself

Dealer part-exchange

Trade in against another caravan

Easiest if you’re upgrading — but the price is almost always the lowest of the three.

  • Quick and convenient
  • No advertising or viewings
  • Lowest figure — typically 25–40% below private
  • Only works if you’re buying another caravan
  • Many dealers refuse caravans with damp

The person valuing your caravan is the person who’ll collect it

J

I’ve been buying touring caravans and motorhomes for over twenty years, from a yard a few minutes outside Burnley. I value every caravan myself, I drive the lorry to collect them myself, and I pay every seller myself. There’s no call centre, there’s no commission-chasing salesman, and there’s no lowballed offer when I turn up on collection day. The figure we agree on the phone is the figure that goes into your bank account.

What we buy

Touring caravans and motorhomes — any age, any condition

If it’s a touring caravan or a motorhome and it’s in mainland UK, we’ll consider it. We buy single and twin axle, two-berth and family layouts, the well-known UK marques and the European imports, the immaculately kept and the well-travelled.

Where we differ from most dealers and private buyers is what happens when the caravan isn’t perfect. Damp doesn’t put us off. Older models don’t put us off. A failed habitation check doesn’t put us off. We factor it all in honestly when we value the caravan, and then we pay what we said we’d pay.

Note: we specialise in tourers and motorhomes. We don’t currently buy static caravans, holiday homes or campervans.

Conditions other buyers walk from

Caravans we’ll make an offer on when others won’t

Damp readings above 25%
Bodywork damage
Pre-2000 models
Failed habitation
Stood for years
High mileage motorhomes
No service history
Outstanding finance
Awning rail issues
CRiS missing
MOT expired
Water damage

Sell my caravan fast

Need to sell quickly? We can usually move within 48 hours.

Most of our customers aren’t in a desperate rush — they’re just sick of the private-sale circus and want a clean exit. But every so often someone needs a caravan gone urgently. A house move, a bereavement, a storage agreement ending, finance pressure. When that’s the situation, tell us when you submit your details and we’ll prioritise.

The shortest turnaround we’ve done is contact on a Monday morning, valuation by lunchtime, collection and payment on the Wednesday. That’s not the standard timeline — most collections happen within four to seven days — but it’s possible when it has to be.

Call James on 01282 932161 if you need it gone this week.

How much is my caravan worth?

Want a more detailed valuation before you commit?

If you’re not ready to pick up the phone yet but you want a proper sense of what your caravan is worth, our free caravan valuation page walks you through the six factors that determine a touring caravan’s value — make and model, age, condition, paperwork, market demand, and where you sell — and includes a longer detailed-request form for a more thorough assessment.

You can also browse the UK caravan price guide for indicative ranges by age and brand. Both are free, both are no-obligation, and either is a sensible starting point if you’re still a few weeks away from selling.

Where we collect from

Free collection from anywhere in mainland UK

We’re based in Burnley but we operate UK-wide. Pick the page closest to you for region-specific information, or just send us your postcode and we’ll come to you.

Frequently asked questions

Answers to the questions we get asked most

Anything we haven’t covered? Call James on 01282 932161.

How do I sell my caravan to Vincent Leisure?

Send us the make, model, year, condition and your postcode using the form on this page, or ring James directly on 01282 932161. We respond within 24 hours with a free, no-obligation valuation. If you accept, we book a collection date that suits you, drive to your address, check the caravan over, and pay you on the spot by cash or bank transfer.

How much is my caravan worth?

Touring caravan values come down to six things: make and model, age, condition (including damp), paperwork, current market demand, and where you sell. As a rough guide, tourers lose 15–20% in the first year and 8–12% a year through years two to five before depreciation flattens out — but after about ten years, condition matters far more than age. The fastest way to find out what yours is worth is to use the form on this page. For a more detailed walkthrough, see our free caravan valuation page.

What documents do I need to sell my caravan?

For a touring caravan, the document you must have to legally transfer ownership is the CRiS certificate (the touring caravan equivalent of a V5C logbook). You don’t need it to get a valuation, but we’ll need it by the collection date. If yours is missing, the CRiS register can issue a duplicate for around £20 — we can talk you through the application. Service history, habitation check certificates and receipts for upgrades all help support the valuation but aren’t essential.

For a motorhome, you’ll need the V5C logbook, current MOT certificate where applicable, and ideally a recent service history. Outstanding finance isn’t a blocker — we can settle it as part of the purchase. Just tell us upfront so we can structure the payment correctly.

We’ll handle the paperwork end of the transfer for you on collection day.

Can I sell my caravan fast?

Yes. Most of our collections happen within four to seven days of you accepting the offer, but in genuinely urgent cases we’ve collected and paid within 48 hours of first contact. Tell us in the form or on the phone if you need it gone quickly — house moves, bereavements and storage deadlines we treat as priority.

Do you buy caravans with damp or damage?

Yes — and it’s one of the main reasons people come to us. Damp affects most touring caravans over a certain age and is the single biggest reason private sales collapse. Dealers refuse caravans with significant damp because they’d struggle to retail them. We factor damp into the valuation honestly and still make an offer.

How do I get paid when I sell my caravan?

You’re paid on the day of collection — full settlement before we drive away with the caravan. Most sellers choose bank transfer (clears within minutes via Faster Payments) but cash is available on request. There’s no staged payment, no holdback, no deposit-now-balance-later, and no “subject to inspection at our yard” clause. The price James quotes you on the phone is the price you receive on collection day. If we spot something at collection that materially changes the valuation, we’ll tell you before we load the caravan and you can say no — but in 20+ years that’s been a handful of cases out of hundreds.

Where can I sell my caravan for the best price?

If absolute top dollar is your only priority and you have time on your hands, a private sale on Auto Trader or Caravan Trader will usually achieve the highest figure — but expect it to take six to twelve weeks and prepare for sales falling through over damp readings or finance issues. If your priority is a quick, certain sale at a fair price with no hassle, a direct buyer like Vincent Leisure is normally the better route. A dealer part-exchange comes in last on price unless you’re buying another caravan from them at the same time.

Where can I sell my touring caravan?

Touring caravans are exactly what we buy — single-axle and twin-axle, two-berth and family layouts, every major UK and European brand from a 2024 Bailey to a 1998 Sprite. Send us the make, model, year, condition and your postcode using the form on this page, or call James on 01282 932161 for a free valuation in 24 hours. We collect anywhere in mainland UK at no cost to you and pay on collection day. We don’t buy static caravans, holiday homes or campervans — only tourers and motorhomes.

How to sell a caravan privately — what’s actually involved?

If you’re going the private route: take good photos in decent light, write an honest listing (mention any damp readings — buyers will get them done anyway), price it competitively against current Auto Trader listings of the same model, and budget for a listing fee of around £30–50 for a featured ad. Be ready for forty enquiries, a dozen viewings, three “I’ll come back tomorrow with the cash” promises that don’t materialise, and at least one buyer pulling out at the eleventh hour. It works, but it takes patience.

What is the best site to sell a caravan?

For touring caravans the two main UK platforms are Auto Trader Caravans and Caravan Trader. Both have large audiences and the right buyer demographic; expect a featured listing fee of around £30–50 and a typical sale window of 4–12 weeks. Facebook Marketplace and eBay reach more casual buyers but attract more timewasters. Caravan Times and Practical Caravan have smaller classified sections worth a try. If you want to skip the listings entirely, a direct buyer like Vincent Leisure offers a fair price, free UK collection and payment on the day — no listing fees, no viewings, no buyers pulling out at the last minute.

How do I get rid of an unwanted caravan?

If the caravan is in saleable condition — even with damp or damage — you have three realistic options: sell privately (slow but highest figure), trade it in against another caravan if you’re upgrading (lowest figure, easiest), or sell to a direct buyer like Vincent Leisure (free collection, paid on the day, fair price). For genuinely scrap caravans, the chassis and salvageable parts still have some value; before paying anyone to take it away, get a free valuation from us first — plenty of caravans owners assume are scrap still have trade value, and we make offers where private buyers and dealers walk away. Send your details using the form on this page or call James on 01282 932161.

Do you have to pay tax when selling a caravan?

For most private sellers, no — selling your own touring caravan or motorhome is treated like selling a car. HMRC classes touring caravans as “wasting assets” (anything with an expected useful life under 50 years), so they’re normally exempt from Capital Gains Tax. The two situations that can change that are: (a) you’re selling as part of a business — for example, if you’ve been letting the caravan out commercially; or (b) you’re selling a static caravan as part of a holiday-let business. If either applies, talk to an accountant before you sell. We’re not tax advisors and this isn’t tax advice — just the framework most of our customers fall into.

How does Vincent Leisure compare to the bigger national caravan-buying companies?

The big national caravan-buying chains run a different model — call centres, regional sub-contracted collectors, and standardised valuations driven by computer pricing rather than someone who knows the market. They handle volume well; what they’re not set up for is the awkward cases (heavy damp, pre-2000 models, no CRiS) or the genuinely urgent ones. Vincent Leisure is a family-run buyer where James personally values, collects, and pays for every caravan. The trade-offs are real both ways: we won’t always be the highest offer (a national chain has more buy-and-resell capacity), but we will turn up when we said we would, with the money we said we’d bring, and we’ll buy caravans the chains turn down.

Do you buy static caravans?

No — we specialise in touring caravans and motorhomes, so we don’t currently buy static caravans, holiday homes or campervans. If you’re trying to sell a static, your best bets are normally the holiday park itself, a specialist static caravan buyer, or a private sale through Facebook Marketplace and dedicated static caravan sites.

What is the 10 year rule for caravans?

The “10 year rule” is a static caravan park policy, not a touring caravan rule. Many UK holiday parks have an age limit — typically 10 to 15 years — before they require statics to be removed or replaced. It’s a park-management policy rather than a safety regulation. Touring caravans have no equivalent rule, and we buy tourers of any age, including 30+ year-old vans. We don’t currently buy static caravans; if you’re trying to sell one that’s hit your park’s age limit, your best bet is normally the park itself, a specialist static caravan buyer, or sites like Facebook Marketplace.

Is the valuation really free?

Yes. There’s no charge for the valuation, no charge for collection, and no obligation to sell. Plenty of owners request a valuation just to know where they stand — that’s fine, and you won’t get badgered with follow-up calls if you decide not to proceed.
